ANDREW ROSS: PHOTOGRAPHS FULL OF MYSTERY

There is a surprise in every image that Andrew Ross’s photography presents. At first the elements, buildings, trains, bridges, people appear to be miniatures or models, but closer inspection reveals that the subjects are real. The broad composition of each black and white photograph is out of focus, but a portion of the photograph – the moving subject is carefully clear in sharp detail. ANDREW ROSS: A SCHOLAR BEHIND THE CAMERA

For Ross, an MFA graduate, Florence Teaching Award recipient and technical and teaching assistant at Florida State University, his photographic skill follows his academic prowess. He previously achieved a BA with distinction and was Phi Beta Kappa at UNC, Chapel Hill. In 2006 and 2007, he taught short courses and lectured at various locations in China where he also had solo exhibitions at Ningbo Museum of Art, Zhejiang and at China Academy of Radio, Film, and Television, Taiyuan, Shanxi.

Represented in group exhibitions in North Carolina and Florida, his photographs have been included in many publications, as well as his having received many awards and honors. His images appear in several important Chinese public collections and at Florida State University.
