Lee Miltier

Lee Miltier

Lee Miltier was born in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii in 1968. The artist grew up on the islands and attended both the Punahou School and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. He furthered his glass education at the Pilchuck School in Stanwood, WA and opened his first glassmaking studio in1991. Miltier has co-founded two lighting companies in the San Francisco bay area and worked with many designers, artists, and architects to produce lighting and objects of their design as well. He began to make art in addition to lighting, seeking to find both a new voice and audience for his highly personal style of working at the edge of glassblowing's limits. His "energy bottle" series is the result of teamwork, obsessive cold-working, and a queer sense of humor.

"This work is my best effort at taking part in the fabulous unfolding reality of time, objects, love, death, sex, fatherhood, friendship, and human determination to MATTER to ourselves and each other. Civilization is a conscious effort at harmonizing ourselves, our communities, our world. It begins with each of us being present in each moment - to be compassionate, intelligent, and creative. That's what it takes to make these pieces, along with all the other work that life brings. Thank you!"
