Born in Boston, Lawrence Kupferman began his art career in the 1930’s working as a WPA artist specializing in realist renditions of Victorian buildings. As his interest in abstraction grew, he returned to school in the 1940’s and attended the Massachusetts College of Art where he later became a professor until retirement in 1969. During this time he fully transitioned to abstract expressionism and was a major figure in the Boston art scene. |
