JANE KRAIKE / SERIGRAPHS

February 22 - March 28, 2020

The late California artist Jane Goldstein Kraike (1910-1991) lived a long and interesting life. Jane was born in the mid-west, the child of Jewish immigrants. As a young woman she moved to New York City where she studied art at the Art Students League and Cooper Union. She married Michael Kraike and, in 1937 the couple moved to Los Angeles where he began a career as a Hollywood movie producer.

Jane was both a painter and a printmaker who's work evolved over her long career. The hand-made serigraphs (silkscreen prints) in this show were done in the 1970s. By this time the couple had moved to Northern California and Jane was consummed with exploring color and pattern in both landscapes and abstract compositions. Serigraphs were the perfect medium for her at this late stage in her artistic development.
